Cataract surgery...

Hello, my name is Brett Halliday and I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist. Cataract surgery is precision surgery. The cataract is removed through an incision, less than one eighth of an inch across, which is crafted so that it is self-sealing and so does not require any sutures. During the operation, the lens capsule (a membrane much less than one thousandth of an inch thick) is modified so that it can hold the lens implant securely within the eye.

For me to give of my best when operating, I need to make sure that everything concerned with surgery is exactly as I want it. Pre-surgery eye drops must be correct, the microscope and phacoemulsification machine must be of the specification that I demand and the surgical instruments must be in perfect condition. I realised that the best way for me to achieve this was to set up my own unit where I can be in charge of every last detail.
